TRIGLYCERIDES

Triglycerides help transport fats to the parts of the body that need energy. The level of triglycerides in the body indicates how efficiently your body processes fat in your diet. High levels of triglycerides can increase your risk of heart disease. The ideal range for triglycerides is 150 or less.

Watch Those Calories

If you regularly eat/drink more calories than you burn, you may have high triglycerides. Why? Because when you eat, your body converts unused calories into triglycerides, which are stored in your fat cells.

How to Lower Triglycerides

A combination of exercise and diet can help to lower triglycerides. Try to get regular exercise and work to reduce your calories so that you’re not taking in more than you’re burning on a daily basis. A few basic tips:

  • Try to avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates.
  • Choose healthy fats, such as those found in plants and fish.
  • Limit how much alcohol you drink as alcohol is high in both sugar and calories.
